What Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea managers said about Erling Haaland when quizzed on transfer links April 3, 2021 – Posted in: Soccer
Erling Haaland is the probably the most talked about footballer in the world right now.
The rumour mill has been sent into overdrive in recent days following the movements of his father, Alf-Inge, and agent Mino Raiola.
On Thursday, the pair were seen in Barcelona ahead of a meeting with club president Joan Laporta.
They then spent their afternoon in Madrid speaking to Real president Florentino Perez.
Their European travels were set to continue on Friday with reports claiming they would be meeting with four Premier League clubs who were interested in the Borussia Dortmund star.
Those four clubs are Man City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Naturally, those managers were asked about their interested in the 20-year-old superstar ahead of this weekend’s games.
City have been one of the top clubs linked with his father having previously played for the club.
They are also in the market for a new talisman with Sergio Aguero leaving the club at the end of the season.
When asked about Haaland, Pep Guardiola said: “There is a lot of big chances that maybe we are not going to sign a striker for next season.
“We have enough players in the first team right now and we have interesting players in the academy.
“There is a big chance, with the situation in the world, the economic problems in world football, we are not going to sign any striker for next season.”
Their rivals Man United were one of the frontrunners in January 2020 when he joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coached Haaland at Norwegian side Molde, which is hoped what will swing it in their favour.
When asked about the striker, Solskjaer said: “It’s not fair to talk about Erling as Man Utd manager. He will make his own mind up.
“Who we are interested, I don’t want to comment. Now there are lot of rumours… Hopefully we can sit here with a player no one has written about…”
Chelsea are believed to want a new number nine this summer with Timo Werner having a disappointing season since joining from RB Leipzig.
Haaland is said to be a top target as well as Sergio Aguero.
“I will not answer that out of respect for the player and Borussia Dortmund,” Tuchel said.
“There is big news around him and his agent. It seems like they are creating a race for the player.
“I will fully accept this a player for Borussia Dortmund, a promising player of course.
“But he isn’t our player and is not in our squad. So we will not comment on anything else regarding Haaland.”
When asked about Aguero, Tuchel added: “Same answer as for Haaland. We have full respect for Man City. There is no words needed, he’s a world-class player. But we have three competitions in which we are in with City so I won’t speak about their players”.
