Tottenham to sign Dejan Kulusevski permanently in £25m deal from Juventus as long time admirer Antonio Conte calls him ‘the present and future’ April 5, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer

Dejan Kulusevski has impressed Antonio Conte so much that Tottenham are set to act early by triggering his £25million release clause.

The Swedish winger has caught the eye since joining Spurs on loan from Juventus in the January transfer window, and a permanent stay now looks on the cards.

Kulusevski, 21, bagged his fifth Spurs assist in just 10 Premier League games last time out, helping his side to a statement 5-1 win over Newcastle United.

He also scored the first of two goals in a huge 3-2 win over Manchester City at the Etihad in February, convincing the club to secure his services permanently earlier than initially planned.

Kulusevski’s 18-month loan deal from Juve includes a £25m option to sign this summer, which will increase to £33.5m should Spurs wait until his loan expires, or if he’d played more than half of their matches.

That appears to be increasingly likely, with the young Swede forming a dangerous attacking trio up front for Conte, alongside Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

Conte has revealed he tried to sign the winger during his time with Inter Milan, and has hinted at a long future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“He started to play with Atalanta, then he went to Parma and he played a fantastic way,” Conte said.

“When I was coach of Inter I tried to ask to sign him but Juventus, perhaps they put more money, and they got him.

“He’s only 21, 22 and he’s strong and good physically. For Tottenham I think he’s a great signing for the present and the future.”

The Times report a deal for Kulusevski would likely impact fellow forwards Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwign, who appear to have lost out to the Swede in the battle to flank Kane.

Moura has just two years left on his current deal, while Bergwijn was a target for Ajax during the January transfer window and was reportedly close to leaving.

Elsewhere, Spurs are set to hand Oliver Skipp a new deal worth around £40,000 per week after breaking into the first time since he returned from a loan spell with Norwich.
