Tottenham confirm Champions League clash with Sporting CP will go ahead despite ‘technical error’ on website saying it had been postponed September 11, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer
Tottenham confirmed their Champions League clash with Sporting CP will go ahead as planned, despite their website saying otherwise.
Eagle-eyed supporters noticed that their website said the match had been postponed, with less than 48 hours to go before the fixture.
It follows on from football being postponed across the country after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Although there had been no official announcements, it had been expected that European games would be going ahead this week.
Tottenham are due to travel to Portugal to face Sporting CP on Tuesday in the 5.45pm kick-off.
The game, as it stands, will be going ahead with Spurs addressing the issue on social media to reassure fans that the message showing on the site was incorrect.
On social media, the club said: “Due to a technical error, Tuesday’s match against Sporting CP is displaying as postponed on our website.
“We can confirm this is incorrect – the match is going ahead as planned. We are looking into the issue urgently and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
A few minutes after that Tweet was sent out, the club added: “The technical issue on our website is now fixed. We thank our fans for their patience on this matter.”
Liverpool are due to be in action against Ajax at Anfield on Tuesday, before Chelsea face Red Bull Salzburg and Man City host Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
