Arteta needs to pick up a league win to ease some of the pressure on his position

Arteta, whose position has been questioned with Arsenal languishing in 15th place, will be without the suspended duo of Granit Xhaka and Gabriel.

Xhaka is serving a three-match ban for grabbing Ashley Westwood by the throat in last weekend’s defeat by Burnley, while Gabriel was shown a second yellow card after taking down Theo Walcott in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Dani Ceballos came in for Xhaka to partner Mohamed Elneny in the middle of the park in midweek and Arteta could keep that midfield duo against Everton.

Meanwhile, David Luiz was introduced when Gabriel was sent off, so could start from the off at Goodison Park.

Hector Bellerin will be available after serving a one-match ban, but could find himself on the bench following Ainsley-Maitland Niles’ impressive display at right-wing-back.

Thomas Partey, the £45million summer signing from Atletico Madrid, remains sidelined after suffering a recurrence of a thigh injury in Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham.

In his pre-match press conference, Arteta revealed he has a few injury concerns but admitted his hope at being able to call on Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari and Gabriel Martinelli soon.

He said: “At the moment we have to look at the next game.

“There are players that are ending the last phase of their rehab like Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari have already played some minutes in the Europa League. [Shkodran] Mustafi as well.

“Gabi Martinelli is very close to be available and fit to be part of us which is great news, and we will see what happens.”
