Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard now have worse win rates than Gary Neville did at Valencia with Aston Villa and Everton bosses seeing odds slashed in Premier League sack race August 21, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard now both have worse win percentages with Aston Villa and Everton than Gary Neville did in his short-lived Valencia stint.

A crushing 3-1 defeat for Gerrard away at Crystal Palace was almost matched by Lampard at home to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest, but a late Demarai Gray equaliser secured a point.

A draw didn’t do any good for the Chelsea legend’s win rate though, with it now dropping to 33.3% (8 wins in 24 games) as Toffees boss.

The story is only marginally better for Gerrard, who is now the bookies’ favourite as the next Premier League manager to lose his job following a Selhurst Park humbling.

The Liverpool icon’s win rate at Villa is now at 35.5% (11 wins in 31 games) thanks to Patrick Vieira, but things look even worse for both Gerrard and Lampard when compared to one of their former England teammates.

Neville managed a 35.7% rate (10 wins in 28 games) at Valencia, in what is infamously remembered as one of the most disastrous attempts at management from a former England international.

The Manchester United legend was given the job managing one of Spain’s biggest teams despite not having any head coaching experience, or being able to speak the language.

The shock appointment came about due to his relationship with fellow Salford owner Peter Lim who also owns Valencia, and it was an experiment that only lasted 28 games.

His stint began in December 2015 and lasted until March 2016, with the lowlight being a 7-0 destruction away at the Camp Nou against Barcelona.

However, despite that headline humiliation which fellow Sky Sports host Jamie Carragher is always keen to bring up, Neville still was winning at a better rate than both Gerrard and Lampard are at their current clubs.

Of course the story is very different in their former jobs, with Gerrard reaching a win rate of 64.5% at Rangers, while Lampard managed 52.4% at Chelsea and 42.2% at Derby.

Those numbers will do little to ease their current predicaments though, with Villa on three points from three games, and Everton on just one.

It was often said that Gerrard and Lampard couldn’t play in the same midfield together for England, and now it’s looking like they can’t manage in the same league together.

The news may come as some solace to Neville, who left a club that has struggled to get out of their chaos spiral since.

Next English Premier League Manager to Leave their Club

Steven Gerrard: 10/3 (was 10/1 on Friday)

Brendan Rodgers – 4/1

Frank Lampard – 5/1

Erik ten Hag. – 5/1

Ralph Hasenhuttl – 15/2

Bruno Lage – 10/1

Thomas Tuchel – 20/1

Scott Parker – 20/1

Neville replaced former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo in the dugout, and was then sacked in favour of Rafael Benitez’ former Liverpool assistant Pako Ayestaran, with that choice proving similarly disastrous.

Former Italy manager Cesare Prandelli then took up the reins but also struggled, before Marcelino came in and guided the club to a Copa del Rey win and top four finish and was shockingly sacked in the aftermath.

The only saving grace for Gerrard and Lampard is that when it comes to the classic ‘best midfielder’ debate, their Man United rival Paul Scholes only managed a 14.3% win rate in his short spell at Oldham.
