Richarlison in attack, Djed Spence and Pau Torres to bolster Antonio Conte’s defensive line June 14, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer
Tottenham have wasted no time in making their mark on the summer transfer window.
After finishing 2021/22 in fourth position and qualifying for the Champions League, the challenge for Antonio Conte’s side is to kick on and build a team that is capable of excelling next term and ensuring they replicate last season’s achievement as a minimum.
As a result, Spurs are looking set to have a very busy couple of months.
So far, they have completed two signings as they look to strengthen Conte’s squad.
It could soon be three with Spurs agreeing a fee for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma in a deal worth up to £30million.
They look set to beat arch-rivals Arsenal to his signature with a medical booked for Thursday.
The 25-year-old had also been of interest to Everton and Aston Villa, but Tottenham are winning the race for the Mali international.
Bissouma has been courted by the north Londoners since playing for Lille and he had been on their list of targets to replace Mousa Dembele back in 2018.
Conte was impressed with the midfielder’s performances last season and he will compete with Pierre-Emile Hojberg, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Oliver Skipp for a spot in the starting XI.
Fraser Forster has already arrived at Spurs on a two-year contract after leaving Southampton.
The experienced shot-stopper has been brought in as an understudy to Hugo Lloris, who is expected to captain the team into the new season and hold onto the number one jersey for another campaign while a long-term is is hunted for.
Ivan Perisic has also joined at the club on a free transfer, with the experienced Croatian international also signing a two-year contract.
While typically being regarded as a winger, the ex-Inter Milan man has also thrived in a wing-back position and could be seen as an offensive option for Conte’s side on the left flank.
Cristian Romero and Eric Dier have proven themselves as reliable defenders under the Italian boss, but Pau Torres is being heavily linked with a move to north London.
Alessandro Bastoni appeard to be the club’s first-choice as a left-sided centre-back, but now Torres seems to be the most likely acquisition, desptite Ben Davies’ good form.
Tottenham’s fourth signing of the summer looks increasingly likely to be Djed Spence from Middlesbrough.
The young wing-back was excellent during his loan spell with Nottingham Forest and could pip Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal to the ring wing-back position due to his undoubted attacking talent.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur struck quite a partnership during the second half of last term, meaning that they’ll no doubt have the backing of Conte to dominate the engine room going into next season.
In attack things are looking really quite exciting.
Spurs are looking for a fresh attacking option to bring into the group and Richarlison is the latest name who has been linked.
The Everton forward has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, however the latest suggestions have said that Spurs are looking to hijack that move for the Brazil international.
Should Richarlison come on board, he’d add crucial competition for places in attack.
Dejan Kulusevski was a brilliant addition for the second half of last term and he’ll be looking to nail down his spot in the side once again this season.
Kulusevski and Richarlison would no doubt be battling each other for a spot in the side, with Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane arguably the first names on Conte’s team sheet based on their goals, assists and overall influence on this Spurs side.
But different games may lead to alternatives styles which favour their contrasting skillsets.
