Reigning champions Man City to face Manchester United again as Tottenham host Championship club Brentford December 24, 2020 – Posted in: Soccer
Man City will face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup semi-finals for a second successive season next month.
City beat United at the same stage of the competition last term as they went on to win a third Carabao Cup under Pep Guardiola.
The Red Devils will be looking to avenge their cup exit by getting one over on their rivals.
Meanwhile, Tottenham will host Championship club Brentford in a London derby.
The semi-final ties will be played on January 5 and 6.
Man City progressed to the semi-finals as they thrashed Arsenal 4-1 on Tuesday.
Goals from Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte ensured it was a comfortable evening for Guardiola’s men.
Their last four opponents, Manchester United, got through thanks to two late goals from Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial against Everton.
With no VAR in operation at the quarter-final stage, Cavani was lucky to escape punishment when he appeared to grab Yerry Mina by the throat during the second-half.
Meanwhile, Brentford reached a major semi-final for the first time in their 131-year history with a 1-0 win over Newcastle.
Josh Dasilva’s 66th-minute goal was enough to knock out a strong Magpies side.
The Bees face a taunting trip to Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham, who put three past Stoke to move one step closer to ending their 12-year trophy drought.
