Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas names his top five goalkeepers September 13, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer
Iker Casillas named Ederson as the second best goalkeeper in the world, but there was no place in the list for Liverpool’s Alisson.
Ederson has been in outstanding form since joining Manchester City from Benfica in 2017, winning three consecutive golden gloves.
The 29-year-old picked up his latest prize, sharing it with Alisson in May, as Pep Guardiola’s side got their hands on yet another Premier League title.
Casillas, who played 725 official matches, winning 19 trophies for Los Blancos, has been impressed with Ederson, ranking him second in a clip which was posted by 433.
Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois was top of the list, following his heroics in the Champions League final last season against Liverpool.
At number three, Casillas went with Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, then Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona in fourth.
Bayern Munich and Germany legend Manuel Neuer took the last place in his top five.
His decision to omit Alisson will certainly not go down well with Liverpool fans.
The Reds shot stopper is even picked ahead of Ederson in the Brazil national team.
Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy is another who has failed to make Casillas’ list.
The Senegal international put in superb performances as the Blues won the Champions League for the second time in May 2021.
Should Alisson and Mendy impress for their respective nations at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, Casillas may just have some re-thinking to do.
