Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg suffers gruesome gash from horror Josh Dasilva challenge as Tottenham reach Carabao Cup final at Brentford’s expense January 6, 2021 – Posted in: Soccer

Brentford’s Carabao Cup quarter-final hero Josh Dasilva saw red for a horrible challenge on Tottenham’s Emile Hojbjerg as the Championship side crashed out of the competition on Tuesday night.

Spurs will take on either Manchester United or Man City on April 25 in the rescheduled Wembley showpiece after goals from Moussa Sissoko and Heung-min Son secured a 2-0 victory over the Championship promotion chasers.

Dasilva lunged into the challenge

Sissoko’s first-half header had put Mourinho’s side in the ascendancy, before Ivan Toney thought he had drew the Bees level after the interval, but VAR ruled out the effort.

Son doubled Tottenham’s lead with 20 minutes remaining, but the game’s major talking point came with six minutes remaining.

Dasilva, a former Arsenal academy graduate, lunged in on a challenge with Hojbjerg close to the middle of the park and got it horribly wrong.

The 22-year-old midfielder went flying in with his right boot – missing the ball completely – catching the Spurs midfielder’s leg.

Dasilva’s challenge was mistimed, but there didn’t appear to be any malice intended

But there’s no denying he caught Hojbjerg – who sported a gruesome gash on his leg afterwards

Hojbjerg was pictured wincing in pain following the incident and needed help getting up to his feet before hobbling off – displaying a gruesome gash after pulling down his sock and taking off his shinpad.

Referee Mike Dean went over to the pitchside monitor to look at a replay of the incident and needed little time in coming to the decision to give Dasilva his marching orders.

Spurs will be competing in their first domestic final since 2015 and they look to end their 12-year trophy drought.

Mourinho is also vying to win the League Cup for a fifth time, having won it three times with Chelsea and once with Manchester United.
