Petition calling for Anthony Taylor to never referee a Chelsea match again gets over 40,000 signatures after Blues’ draw at home to Tottenham August 15, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer
Outraged Chelsea fans have demanded Anthony Taylor never officiate one of their matches again following their eventful draw against Tottenham.
The feisty clash at Stamford Bridge finished 2-2 as Spurs pegged the Blues back twice, their equaliser coming in the final seconds of stoppage-time.
The end of the match saw managers Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte clash, having engaged in a touchline spat after Spurs’ first goal.
Tuchel appears to have gotten over the confrontations with his opposite number as he then vented about the ‘very, very poor’ officiating of referee Taylor and his assistants after the match,
Tuchel believes both of Spurs’ goals shouldn’t have stood, arguing Richarlison, who was stood in an offside position, was in the line of the ball when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg fired past Edouard Mendy.
The German also took issue with the officials for not giving Kai Havertz a free-kick when he was firmly tackled by Rodrigo Bentancur before Hojbjerg’s goal.
And the second equaliser, which was scored by Harry Kane, came after Cristian Romero wasn’t punished despite VAR looking at an incident which showed him pulling the hair of Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, while also saying a free-kick shortly before the corner which led to the second Spurs goal shouldn’t have been awarded.
Chelsea fans will share Tuchel’s views, with one deciding drastic action is needed.
The petition, started by an account named CFC DuBois, read: “Anthony Taylor has continued to make big decisions against Chelsea over the years in big matches.
“Taylor has an agenda against Chelsea and should not be allowed to referee a game involving the club again.”
The petition went on to list other examples where Chelsea have felt wronged by decisions Taylor has made against them in matches they’ve played.
