Nottingham Forest go ‘full Jack Grealish’ as Steve Cooper’s side celebrate Premier League return after 23-year absence May 30, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer

The city of Nottingham was in the party mood on Sunday night after seeing Forest secure promotion to the Premier League.

But while fans at home were relishing the 1-0 victory over Huddersfield, those in attendance at Wembley were intent on painting London red.

Forest’s promotion had been a long time coming, with the club enduring a 23-year absence from the English top flight.

The former European champions had to undergo their fair share of hardship in the Championship, and so when the time came to blow off some steam it was clear that they were going to do so in style.

Steve Cook is a player who only moved to the City Ground in January, but played a pivotal role both on and off the pitch in getting Steve Cooper’s side over the line.

Speaking after the game, the experienced defender was keen to following in the footsteps of his footballing idol when it came to partying hard.

“I think we are going to go full Jack Grealish,” he told Sky Sports. “We obviously saw the celebrations and we dreamt that it would be us.

“It’s the only time that I will probably able to be Jack Grealish and I am going to enjoy it.”

Asked how the achievement of securing promotion ranked in his career, Cook said: “Right at the top.

“We’ve done it the hard way. We’ve suffered this year but the group is incredible.

“They’re a great group and to be only here four or five months and experience this at a club this size is unimaginable.

“It’s ridiculous and unbelievable.”

Cook is referencing the week of partying that Grealish enjoyed after winning the Premier League title.

After celebrating the victory by lifting the trophy, the Man City player relished the open-top bus parade around Manchester as he drank what looked like vodka and coke on the way around.

Every time he was handed the microphone he would leave the crowd in stitches – which included when he promised to buy jägerbombs for whoever met him out that night.

As other players jetted off on holidays with their families after that, Grealish went international himself as he rocked up at Wayne Lineker’s Ibiza destination, Ocean View.

While only time will tell if Cook and the Forest squad see their party end up in Ibiza, there’s no doubt that a good night was had as they enjoyed the achievement of finally taking Forest back to English football’s promised land.
