Mikel Arteta wants reunion with Man City defender Eric Garcia at Arsenal amid Barcelona transfer interest December 12, 2020 – Posted in: Soccer
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants to raid his former club Man City to sign Eric Garcia.
The Spain defender has already turned down an offer to extend his contract, which runs until the end of the season.
Garcia was heavily linked with a summer return to Barcelona, the club he left to join City in 2017, but a move failed to materialise.
He is currently behind Aymeric Laporte, Ruben Dias and John Stones in the pecking order at the Etihad.
The Sun claim Arteta is a fan of the 19-year-old having worked with him during his time as City’s assistant boss.
But the Spaniard could be forced to wait until the summer to sign Garcia with unwanted duo Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Shkodran Mustafi still on Arsenal’s books.
Guardiola is hoping to convince Garcia to stay at Man City.
In October he said: “I know he wants to leave, but maybe we can seduce him to extend his contract with us.
“He is a guy who is so stable in many, many things and I’m so happy [with him].”
Meanwhile, Garcia remains coy on his Man City future.
The defender admitted last month: “The only thing I can say is that I am a Manchester City player.
“I have a contract, and I am very grateful because they were the ones who bet on me.
“I’m grateful for the confidence of Pep, Txiki [Begiristain], everyone… and nothing, just that.
“Today I’m at City, but tomorrow you never know where you can be, maybe because you don’t perform [or] because of an injury.”
