Mikel Arteta ‘doesn’t believe in Alexandre Lacazette’ as Arsenal legend Perry Groves urges Gunners not to sell him after Leeds snub February 15, 2021 – Posted in: Soccer

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta doesn’t believe in Alexandre Lacazette.

That is according to former Manchester United striker Andy Cole, who believes the Frenchman has been hard done by at the Emirates.

Lacazette has been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Atletico in recent months

Lacazette was an unused substitute as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s hat-trick helped Arsenal to a 4-2 win over Leeds on Sunday.

The Frenchman had started Arsenal’s last seven games, but was forced to watch from the bench as Aubameyang terrorised Leeds’ defence.

Cole reckons Arteta does not fully trust Lacazette, who has scored 10 goals this season.

He told talkSPORT: “Look at Lacazette and I’m disappointed for him because I don’t think Arteta believes in him.

“He’s looking at Aubameyang coming back in after two games on the bench, gets himself a hat-trick… he’ll be saying to himself, ‘that could have been me.’”

With Lacazette’s contract running out next summer, Arsenal legend Perry Groves insists Arsenal should keep him.

He said: “As an Arsenal fan, I wouldn’t want him to go. When he’s playing, if it’s not going right, he gets the hook after an hour or 70 minutes.

“He’s played seven games on the spin, Arsenal haven’t been great and then you’re playing against Leeds where you know they concede goals for fun and you get left out.

“He’ll be looking at that thinking, ‘do me a favour, this is the game I should be playing in.’”
