Matt Ritchie scored one of the most bizarre own goals of the season on Saturday to give Fulham the lead at St James’ Park.

The Newcastle winger was unfortunate to put the ball in the back of his own net as the first half was coming to an end.

Ademola Lookman swung the ball into the middle, where defender Tosin Adarabioyo headed it down for Decordova-Reid to flick the ball towards goal.

The effort was actually going wide but bounced up awkwardly and hit Ritchie in the face and deflected in.

Former Leicester and England striker Gary Lineker enjoyed the own goal and posted about it on social media.

He wrote:”Matt Ritchie has just scored one of the most comical own goals I think I’ve ever witnessed. Even @alanshearer couldn’t fight a chuckle after four replays.”

The half ended 1-0 to Fulham with Newcastle having 45 minutes to try and avoid a second straight defeat.

The Magpies were thrashed 5-2 midweek by Leeds despite going a goal up in the first half.
