Manchester United confirm Jesse Lingard will follow Paul Pogba through the exit when his contract expires at the end of month, after more 20 years with the Premier League side June 1, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer
Manchester United have confirmed that Jesse Lingard will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the month.
The midfielder, who came through the academy at the club, leaves having made 232 appearances and scored 35 times.
He has been a key member of the Red Devils’ squad, which saw him score the winning goal for United as they came from behind to beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final in 2016.
But, despite a successful loan at West Ham during the second half of last season, Lingard has played little football over the last few years.
The 29-year-old was denied a loan move in the January transfer window and had various well-documented problems with interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
Other players who are also leaving this summer, like Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic, were given the opportunity of a send off, but Lingard was frequently left on the bench.
A statement released by the club on Wednesday ends: “We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Jesse for all of the memories he’s helped create during his two decades here and wish him the best of luck in his future career.”
The Red Devils have also confirmed that fellow United academy graduate, Paul Pogba – who they already released once, before buying him back for £89million – will also depart at the end of June.
