Man United confirm Casemiro transfer agreement as Real Madrid star becomes biggest signing of summer for Erik ten Hag August 20, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer
Manchester United have reached an agreement for the signing of Casemiro from Real Madrid.
Subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical, he will become United’s fourth summer recruit following the arrivals of Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez and will arrive for a reported fee of £60million.
A statement on the club website said: “Manchester United is delighted to announce that the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Casemiro.
“The transfer is subject to the agreement of personal terms, UK visa requirements and a medical.
“Casemiro has played over 500 professional games, including 63 at international level for his native Brazil. He has won 17 major honours in his illustrious career including five Champions League titles and the Copa America.
“We all look forward to welcoming Casemiro to Old Trafford.”
Erik ten Hag has been desperate to strengthen his midfield this summer, having seen a deal for top target Frenkie de Jong so far fail to materialise.
United turned their focus to Casemiro this week and moved quickly to tie up a deal, with the 30-year-old informing Real Madrid he was keen to accept a new challenge.
The move comes ahead of a crunch Premier League clash on Monday night against Liverpool.
Casemiro was not signed in time to feature at Old Trafford but his arrival will deliver a major boost to Ten Hag, who has seen his side suffer disastrous defeats to Brighton and Brentford in his first two matches as United manager.
The former Sao Paulo midfielder has played over 300 times for Los Blancos and has been part of five Champions League successes.
United are understood to be still chasing De Jong, as well as Ajax winger Antony, with Ten Hag keen on a number of new additions before the transfer window closes.
It was revealed on Friday by Carlo Ancelotti that Casemiro would leave Real for United, as the player wants ‘to try a new challenge’.
“I talked to him this morning,” Ancelotti said. “He wants to try a new challenge, a new opportunity. I and the club understand it.
“With what he’s done at this club and the person he is, we have to respect it. There are talks right now, nothing is official, but he wants to leave.
“We wish him all the best in his next challenge.”
Real Madrid are well stocked in midfield, with Luke Modric putting pen-to-paper on a new one-year deal until the end of 2023.
Toni Kroos also adds experience and will provide the necessary support for younger talents, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde.
