Lionel Messi joins Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in devastating front three August 6, 2021 – Posted in: Soccer
Shockwaves were sent spiralling around the football world earlier this week as Barcelona confirmed Lionel Messi would be leaving the club after 21 years of service.
It was announced on Thursday that the Argentine superstar would not be continuing at the Nou Camp after ‘financial and structural obstacles’ prevented him from signing a new deal.
Paris Saint-Germain have been instilled as the early frontrunners to sign the superstar, with Fabrizio Romano revealing that Messi’s former teammate Neymar is the driving force behind the transfer.
Romano said they are ‘confident’ they will be able to make Messi their player.
The transfer guru wrote on Twitter: “Paris Saint-Germain are close to sign Leo Messi, confirmed. PSG are preparing the official contract until June 2023 to be submitted to Messi and his father Jorge in the next hours.
“Messi’s open to join PSG. Neymar was pushing in the last 24h. PSG are so, so confident.”
City and Chelsea are also believed to be considering bids, with the latter’s owner Roman Abramovich reportedly requesting an ‘urgent meeting’ with Messi and his representatives.
One thing’s for sure, if Messi joins PSG they will have a truly frightening XI boasting several of the most talented players on the planet.
The French giants have already had a very busy market as they look to claim the Champions League title once and for all in the 2021/22 campaign.
Poch has already landed seasoned veteran Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid, while Euro 2020 Player of the Tournament Gianluigi Donnarumma has joined on a free transfer from AC Milan.
PSG also beat Chelsea to the signature of Achraf Hakimi, who is regarded as one of the best right-wing backs in world football, and Georgino Wijnaldum, who joined after his contract at Liverpool expired.
Manchester United ace Paul Pogba is also a target but that may now have changed with Messi up for grabs.
So how could PSG look? talkSPORT.com has identified arguably the best XI they could line-up with next term…
Donarumma will slot straight in between the sticks, likely in place of Keylor Navas, who will be unfortunate to miss out having impressed since moving from Real Madrid in 2019.
PSG have acquired the world’s best young goalkeeper for nothing after his AC Milan contract ran out, and we can only hazard a guess at how much the Italy star would worth after such an impressive Euro 2020.
PSG also beat Chelsea to the signing of Hakimi, who arrived from Inter for £60m earlier this summer, and he will assume his natural position in the side as a right-wing back.
Ramos will join Marqinhos and Presnel Kimpembe in what is a rock solid back three, while Juan Bernat could occupy the opposite wing-back slot.
In midfield, Wijnaldum will join Marco Verratti in a well-balanced midfield two.
Di Maria is unfortunate not to make the XI, but he would be a devastating substiute to bring off the bench or could rotate with Wijnaldum in the XI.
And in what would likely be one of the most devastating front threes in football history, Messi would join Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in attack.
Mbappe’s pace would see him most effective as a no.9, while Neymar could occupy the left wing with Messi on the right, where he loves to cut in with his lethal left foot.
Neymar was often used on the left wing during his period of dominance with Messi and Luis Suarez – duly named ‘MSN’.
But MNM (Messi, Neymar, Mbappe) could rival or even better that lethal front three.
