Leicester City move third in the Premier League table ahead of Tottenham with win but Andy Carroll scores first Newcastle goal since December 2010! January 3, 2021 – Posted in: Soccer
Leicester City have moved to third spot in the Premier League table with a 2-1 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
The Foxes move ahead of Tottenham, but remain behind Liverpool and Manchester United with the victory.
A dull first half wasn’t exciting anyone on Tyneside, or viewing at home, but a double from James Maddison and Youri Tielemans set the visitors on their way.
The first goal was a fine finish after a lovely Jamie Vardy run, while Belgian ace Tielemans, who was superb all afternoon, arrowed in a strike following a precise pass from right wing-back Marc Albrighton.
There was a worry at the death though with Andy Carroll netting a volley, giving Brendan Rodgers and his men reason to sweat.
However, they weathered the storm and took all three points as they attempt to keep up a title bid.
With only one win in their last four Premier League games, pressure was beginning to ramp up on Rodgers’ side and it looked to be telling in the opening stages of the clash.
More to follow.
