Jurgen Klopp celebrates ‘absolutely incredible’ FA Cup victory with Liverpool fans, but can’t think of a worse team to be trailing in the Premier League than Man City April 16, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer

Jurgen Klopp has never had much time for the FA Cup, but this season things are ‘special,’ and he made sure the travelling Liverpool supporters at Wembley knew.

Klopp’s fist bumps to the Anfield Kop end have become a trademark, but at Wembley today there were plenty of nerves that they wouldn’t arrive.

A stunning first half against Manchester City saw Liverpool assail to a 3-0 lead, and look well on their way to a comfortable victory and passage into the final.

However, goals from Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva either end of the second 45 gave the red half of Wembley a heart-racing end to a thrilling display.

Klopp was eventually able to unite with his adoring fans after the full time whistle, despite a bluff that he was heading for the tunnel, he gave the travelling Kop exactly what they wanted.

“Yes it was a special performance,” he told talkSPORT. “It’s not like we’ve ever since I’m Liverpool manager had an easy route to any kind of things, even the season we became champions it was like ‘OK then put in a pandemic’.

“Today obviously the first half was one of the best first halves we’ve ever played. It was absolutely incredible.

“We closed all the gaps City use usually, we improved a lot from the last game with all these spots in behind which was obviously very important, and we scored incredible goals which was very helpful but we never thought game over, we knew City is still there.

“But that they were as good in the second half makes it even more special to be honest because we didn’t beat a City team who didn’t want, no they wanted so that makes it even more special.”

Five wins in this year’s edition of the FA Cup is the equivalent of Klopp’s totals in the previous six years combined, where he never managed to make it past the fifth round.

Now though, the Reds are heading back to Wembley, and could well add to their trophy haul after a Carabao Cup win in February.

However, Liverpool fans have a special place in their heart for the Premier League trophy, and another title would lift them back level on 20 championships with their fiercest of rivals, Manchester United.

Talk of a quadruple will only increase as time goes on, but when it comes to the league, Klopp can’t possibly think of a worse opponent to be trailing.

He explained: “The Premier League is seven games for both teams.

“One point behind this team, you saw today out there with some injury problems, [Kyle] Walker not there Kevin De Bruyne not there.

“Being behind another team I would be more confident than being a point behind City.”
