Jose Mourinho told Jurgen Klopp ‘the better team lost’ as Tottenham boss criticises Liverpool manager’s touchline antics December 17, 2020 – Posted in: Soccer
Jose Mourinho has revealed what was said between him and Jurgen Klopp at the end of Tottenham’s last-minute 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on Wednesday night.
Roberto Firmino struck at the death to send the Reds above Spurs at the top of the Premier League and the two managers were seen exchanging words on the touchline at full-time.
It didn’t seem too unpleasant – but it was clear Mourinho and Klopp had disagreed on something – and it was because the Tottenham boss told his counterpart ‘the better team lost’.
“I told him the best team lost – and he disagreed. That’s his opinion,” Mourinho told Amazon Prime.
Liverpool bossed the game, but Mourinho’s Spurs proved their title credentials and looked set to get a point after Heung-min Son cancelled out Mohamed Salah’s opener.
The champions enjoyed more than three-quarters of the ball, but Tottenham had the better chances, which were wasted by Steven Bergwijn and Harry Kane – of all people.
And a clearly frustrated Mourinho also took aim at Klopp’s behaviour on the touchline, arguing he gets treated differently to the Reds manager.
He continued: “By the way, if I behave on the touchline the same way on the touchline like he does, I have no chance to stay there. I am out one minute after.”
The Tottenham boss also fired shots at Pep Guardiola as well after the Man City boss was seen raging at the fourth official for not adding on enough time during their draw with West Brom on Tuesday night.
“Do you want me to take the board from the fourth official’s hands and see what happens to me?” Mourinho added.
“I’m saying that for some reason I am different – and that’s that.”
