Jose Mourinho emerges as strong contender for Paris Saint-Germain job as Roma boss tipped to replace former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino again June 4, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer
Jose Mourinho has emerged as a strong contender to become the next Paris Saint-Germain manager, talkSPORT understands.
The French champions are thought to be on the hunt for a new boss with Mauricio Pochettino expected to be sacked in the coming days.
Mourinho recently guided Roma to Europa Conference League glory – the club’s first major European trophy – and a respectable sixth-place finish in Serie A.
The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham manager recently committed his future to the Italian club – but PSG may have the pulling power to change that.
Speaking on May 25, the ‘Special One’ said: “Now I am staying, there are no doubts. Even if some rumours emerge, I only want to remain at Roma.
Nevertheless, talkSPORT sources say the Portuguese veteran is being considered by PSG chiefs as they continue to finalise Pochettino’s exit.
It would be the second time Mourinho has replaced Pochettino in recent years after the same switch took place at Tottenham in 2019.
While PSG wrapped up the league title with consummate ease last season, a first Champions League crown proved elusive once again as they were dumped out by eventual-winners Real Madrid in the round of 16.
The Parisians signed Lionel Messi, among a host of high-profile stars, last summer and still boast one of Europe’s most enviable squads.
France superstar Kylian Mbappe has snubbed Real Madrid to stay at the Parc des Princes on a lucrative new contract, while Neymar will look to overcome the injury problems which plagued him last term.
Mourinho is one of the most successful managers in history, winning every honour in England, Spain, Italy and Portugal, as well as all three of Europe’s top prizes.
His return to glory at Roma came after disappointing spells at Manchester United and Spurs, both of which saw him sacked.
