Jose Mourinho continues war of words with Jurgen Klopp as Tottenham manager insists Hansi Flick should’ve won FIFA award December 19, 2020 – Posted in: Soccer
Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has continued his war of words with Jurgen Klopp by insisting the Liverpool manager should not have won the FIFA Best Men’s Coach award.
Klopp was honoured by FIFA on Thursday after guiding the Reds to one of the most dominant Premier League titles in history last season.
However, Mourinho insists the German’s achievements pale in significance to those of Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick.
The Spurs manager’s comments come just two days after his side’s last-gasp 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, which was followed by an immediate touchline disagreement between Mourinho and Klopp.
Mourinho told Klopp ‘the better team lost’ before criticising the Liverpool manager’s touchline antics in a post-match interview – and it seems the Tottenham boss had a third dig to aim at his counterpart.
“I think the only chance for Flick to win [the FIFA Best Men’s Coach award] is that Bayern find two or three new competitions for him to win,” Mourinho said at his press conference on Friday.
“So maybe if he wins seven titles in one season, maybe he wins the award.
“I believe he only won Champions League, Bundesliga, Pokal, the name of their cup, European Cup, German Super Cup… he only won five. And the biggest one of all.
“Poor Flick. I think the only chance is for Bayern to find two or three more trophies to see if he can win it.”
