Jason Cundy and Andy Goldstein get emotional on last ever Sports Bar show together after 14 years of pranks, call-ins, and a lot of laughs July 19, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer

It was the end of an era on talkSPORT on Monday night as dynamic duo Andy Goldstein and Jason Cundy hosted their last ever Sports Bar show together.

And things got a little emotional as Cundy thanked his co-host for 14 years of non-stop laughs on talkSPORT late nights.

The former Chelsea defender and ex-Sky presenter first joined forces in the talkSPORT studios in 2008, and what began as a ragtag band of the new hosts and their callers soon became one of the most beloved shows on the station.

Sometimes you want to go where Andy Goldstein knows your name, and Jason Cundy’s glad you came – and that was literally true for so many Sports Bar listeners who loyally tuned in every evening.

From their hilarious attempt to make a top ten single [it reached No.21], to iconic calls, hilarious pre-show sketches, on-air pranks, live s******** goal celebrations, and winding up callers – it was 14 years of radio that will never be repeated – mainly due to new Ofcom regulations.

And Cundy couldn’t help but get emotional as he paid tribute to his colleague turned best mate, and Goldstein looked incredibly touched.

Jason also revealed a story about a time he was at ‘without question the lowest point of my life ever’ and Andy was there to lift him back up.

The Duck Lover even got Andy a gift for their final show together. Of course, Goldstein didn’t get him anything.

To be fair, as Andy said, it’s not like either of them are going anywhere. You’ll still be able to hear Cundy on the Sports Bar in the new line-up alongside Jamie O’Hara, while Goldstein will move to hosting Drivetime full-time.

But it was still a classic Sports Bar finale packed with emotion, walks down memory lane and the return of some old faces – including the Gouldfather himself, Bobby Gould!

And it all kicked off with a glossy-eyed speech from Cundy…

“I’ve been looking forward to this show and dreading it in equal measure,” Jason said, looking emotional already.

“You and I have worked together for 14 years and this show has grown, and I can’t think of anyone better – you’ve absolutely guided me and helped me through just being in this studio.

“You’ve been there through everything, whether it’s from a presenter or a mate. You’ve been there through the best and worst times of my life.

“But you were there for the best times as well. The biggest laughs I’ve ever had in my life have been shared with you, in a box, in a studio where nobody else is sitting with us.

“I’ve cried with laughter – I’ve not laughed with anyone the way I’ve laughed with you.

“And some of the things we’ve done and got away with – how did we get away with it?!

“This is my job – I come to work with one of my best mates, watching football, laughing, coming on air, taking calls and laughing even more, and it’s one of the best jobs in the world.

“I would not want to have done it with anyone else. I have to say, I love you. I genuinely love you.”

The Funboy, and Stinks – cheers for all the laughs lads!
