Irish starlet Sinclair Armstrong signs new contract at QPR amid Man City, Celtic and Crystal Palace links February 5, 2021 – Posted in: Soccer
Irish teenager Sinclair Armstrong has signed an 18-month contract extension at QPR.
talkSPORT exclusively revealed on Tuesday that the Championship side had reached an agreement with the 17-year-old starlet.
The powerful young forward – a Republic of Ireland Under-17 international – initially joined the club in October 2020 from Shamrock Rovers.
Armstrong only penned a short-team deal at that time though, which meant he was eligible to sign a pre-contract at another club.
Manchester City, Celtic and Crystal Palace had all been linked with making a move for the youngster, who made his senior debut for the League of Ireland side aged just 15.
Several QPR sources played down that speculation and insisted Armstrong would sign an improved deal – which he now has.
The Rs also have the option to extend Sinclair’s contract by a further year.
The talented striker has impressed for Paul Furlong’s Under-18 side this season and has already been earmarked for more regular inclusions for the Under-23s.
Armstrong, who can also operate as a left winger, spent time on trial with Bundesliga side Hoffenheim last year before the coronavirus pandemic halted football.
Just days later the Belgian-born playmaker put pen-to-paper on a four-and-a-half year extension in W12.
Rangers also hold the option to extend the 23-year-old’s contract by an additional year.
