Heung-min Son onside by a WHISKER as VAR works against Liverpool once again during Tottenham clash December 16, 2020 – Posted in: Soccer
VAR has statistically affected Liverpool worse than any other Premier League team this season – and it got them again in their huge clash with Tottenham.
Out of nowhere, Heung-min Son raced through on goal to cancel out Mohamed Salah’s opening strike in an intriguing first-half which saw the Reds dominate Spurs.
Upon first glance, it looked like Son was going to be the victim of one of those marginal offside calls, with his front foot in a questionable position when Giovani Lo Celso’s exceptional pass was played.
However, the guys at Stockley Park got their lines out and quickly ruled that Son had timed his run to perfection.
It represents a killer blow for Liverpool, not only in a game which they were bossing, but also in a season which has seen them on the wrong end of numerous tight VAR calls.
A similar incident at Everton went against Liverpool – as Sadio Mane was ruled offside in the build-up to what Jordan Henderson thought was a last-minute winner, despite the Senegal winger appearing level to the naked eye.
If you add up the decisions which have gone for and against Liverpool with VAR this season, the Reds are stood at minus six.
VAR also decided not to look at a handball claim against Eric Dier when the ball struck his arm – although it would’ve been very harsh.
