‘Harry Kane would cry all week!’ August 29, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer

Tottenham’s Harry Kane’s goalscoring mentality has been compared to Mohamed Salah’s after the pair’s differing performances at the weekend.

Spurs’ star man Kane got on the scoresheet twice against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, leading Antonio Conte’s side to a 2-0 victory at The City Ground, while he also missed a penalty.

Kane is on fire already this season

Meanwhile, Liverpool ended their poor run on Saturday with a record-equalling 9-0 triumph over Bournemouth.

However, none of the Reds’ nine goals came from last season’s joint Premier League Golden Boot winner, Mohamed Salah, who missed two glorious chances.

Laura Woods was joined by former Rangers frontman Ally McCoist and ex-Liverpool striker Dean Saunders on talkSPORT Breakfast, and the trio discussed Kane’s impressive performance.

And after commending the England captain for his display, Saunders took the opportunity to compare him to Salah to demonstrate just how incredible his goalscoring mentality is.

He said: “The main thing is, as a striker and out-and-out goalscorer – Ally was one, I was one – I used to get out of bed in the morning thinking ‘how many goals can I score today?’.

“Everyday nothing else mattered in my life apart from how many goals I was going to get in training, how could I improve for Saturday, who I was playing against.

“I think that’s his [Kane’s] biggest strength, his drive and his desire to score goals. You know you had some players that you played with who were brilliant players but they didn’t really care if they scored or not.

“He [Kane] does. If he was playing for Liverpool on Saturday and they scored nine and he never scored, he’d be crying all week!”

Former Newcastle and Blackburn striker Alan Shearer currently holds the Premier League’s top scorer on a tally of 260.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old Kane has 187, netting four so far this season already.

And McCoist thinks it’s the Three Lions’ skipper’s mentality that Saunders was applauding that will lead him to eventually beat Shearer’s record.

“He’s a very, very clever player,” McCoist said.

“I didn’t think anybody would beat Alan Shearer’s record, but I tell you now, Alan will be looking over his shoulder and saying this is the first time it’s in jeopardy.”
