Harry Kane, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish pictured in England’s new kits for 2022 World Cup but ‘unveiling’ an error from Nike with launch date postponed for Queen’s funeral September 16, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer
England’s home and away kits for the 2022 World Cup were mistakenly unveiled on Thursday.
Manufacturer Nike had planned to officially unveil the national team’s new look after the mourning period following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
According to reports, the Football Association had requested the official launch kit be officially unveiled on 21 September, two days after the state funeral but an error saw them leaked early.
A spokesperson for Nike said: “We are disappointed that images of the new England World Cup kits have been published online before the official launch date. With the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, Nike has delayed the UK launch of the new kits until Wednesday 21 September. We will not publish further details about these kits until then.”
In the images, Harry Kane is pictured in the new white ‘home’ top, which is a classic white design and features blue across the shoulders.
This one has divided opinion amongst the supporters.
However, the away shirt seems to be more of a fan favourite, which was seen worn by Phil Foden and Jack Grealish.
It appears to be a throwback to the early 1990s.
England play Italy in the Nations League on 23 September and then against Germany three days later.
It will give a number of players the chance to impress manager Southgate ahead of the World Cup with these fixtures being the last before the tournament begins in Qatar.
England kick off their Group B campaign against Iran on November 21.
With the World Cup two months away, the pressure is now on the players to try and add another star to go above that England badge.
