Fenerbahce ‘terminate’ Mesut Ozil’s contract two years before expiry but ex-Arsenal star looks set to announce next move July 14, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer
Mesut Ozil doesn’t have the best of luck when it comes to leaving a club on a good note, and Fenerbahce terminating his contract will likely be giving him a real sense of Deja vu.
However, it’s not all bad for the former Premier League midfielder, given he appears to have already sorted out his next move with Istanbul Basaksehir set to confirm the signing of him on a free transfer.
“One of the things that makes life is that it is full of uncertainties,” Ozil said on his social media.
“Our plans, desires and wishes may not always go in the direction you want them to. I wanted to achieve success by getting more chances to play in the Fenerbahce jersey, which has always been my childhood dream.
“I would like to thank the Fenerbahce community and fans for the great support they have shown me.”
Ozil’s fell out of favour and was later excluded by Fenerbahce for a ‘fitness dispute‘ with then-coach Ismail Kartal back in March.
There had been speculation Ozil’s situation at the Turkish club could turn around following the appointment of new manager, Jorge Jesus.
Now, though, Fenerbahce have opted to terminate his contract early, despite him having two years left on his deal.
This of course strikes some resemblance to what happened at the Emirates Stadium, with Ozil leaving Arsenal six months early after a fallout with Mikel Arteta.
And it looks like the 33-year-old won’t be travelling far to find a new club, with Istanbul Basaksehir releasing a video appearing to suggest they’d signed him.
