Everton star backed to out-muscle Chelsea’s veteran December 12, 2020 – Posted in: Soccer
Jermaine Pennant is adamant Dominic Calvert-Lewin will bully Thiago Silva when Everton face Chelsea live on talkSPORT tonight.
The Toffees striker, 23, has scored 16 goals in 18 appearances for club and country this season, earning rave reviews.
Meanwhile, Silva, the 36-year-old who arrived on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, has drastically improved Chelsea’s defence.
Only Tottenham (9) have conceded fewer Premier League goals than the Blues (11) this term.
talkSPORT’s Craig Mitch and former Liverpool winger Pennant were debating which player would come out on top this weekend.
Mitch said: “How long has he [Calvert-Lewin] been doing it at this level for this season? About three months.
“How long has Thiago Silva been doing this for? About 20-odd years.”
Pennant replied: “I doesn’t matter, you’re only as good as your last game.
“Physically, I think Dominic will bully him. That’s my personal opinion.”
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is well aware of the threat Calvert-Lewin possesses.
He said: “What I do respect about Calvert-Lewin is that, and this is from afar because I don’t know him, but it feels like a career that he has really worked for.
“That sounds simple but it is not a straightforward pathway.
“Not everyone gets in their first-team at 17 or 18, other than the Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen types of the world.
“Other players have to find different ways and now he has shown himself, last season and particularly this season, consistently he’s an all-round striker.
“Every part of his game is a real threat.”
