Eduardo Camavinga visits Ukraine dressing room, hands out France shirt and expresses ‘hope’ for war-torn country June 10, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer
Real Madrid’s French star Eduardo Camavinga gifted Ukraine his France under 21 shirt and expressed his hope that things will soon improve for the country.
The gesture came after the international sides played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in a qualifying match for the U21 European championship.
The match took place in Istanbul with Ukraine under attack from neighbouring Russia whose invasion of the country began on February 24.
Camavinga, who was a second half substitute during the draw, was the most recognisable name on the pitch having starred for Real Madrid in their LaLiga and Champions League-winning campaign.
The 19-year-old, who signed from Rennes last summer, was a calming figure as he helped Madrid see out victories over Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Having received three caps playing for France’s senior squad, Camavinga returned to the junior side for the tie, and popped into the home dressing room post-match.
Joined by staff and teammates, Camavinga said: “This is the shirt for all the people.
“We know the current situation is not OK and very complicated, so this is a present for everyone from all the team.
“We hope the situation will be better for you soon.”
