Chelsea v Brentford LIVE commentary and team news: Latest on Blues star James ahead of Premier League clash March 30, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer

Chelsea welcome Brentford to Stamford Bridge on Saturday in a west London derby and it will be live on talkSPORT 2.

The Blues’ off-field future still looks far from certain, but on the pitch, they have won their last six matches.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have won every game since Roman Abramovich was sanctioned

The Champions League holders currently sit in third, ten points behind Liverpool and 11 points off Manchester City, while they are eight clear of Tottenham in fifth.

Therefore, it looks like they are out of the title race but probably need a couple more wins to guarantee a place in UEFA’s premier competition next year.

Meanwhile, Thomas Frank’s side sit on 30 points, eight clear of Watford in 18th, so they are nearly safe.

They are closing in on the magic 40 mark, but based on statistics since the turn of the century, 35 should be enough for the Bees.

Although that won’t guarantee survival, it would give Brentford a good chance of remaining in the Premier League.

However, you would have to say they are more likely to pick up those required points elsewhere than at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

In four games against the so-called ‘big six’ this year, the Bees haven’t picked up a point, while they haven’t beaten Chelsea since 1939.

Chelsea v Brentford: Team news

Chelsea only have one major injury problem, with Ben Chilwell still recovering from his knee ligament injury suffered against Juventus in November.

The England international has returned to light training but it is still unclear if he will miss the remainder of the season.

Reece James withdrew from the latest England squad with injury, but he returned to first-team training on Tuesday afternoon along with Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The Blues still have 13 players on international duty and a couple face a race against time to get back for this match.

Brentford don’t have any major injury problems and they will be pleased to see Christian Eriksen come through unscathed against the Netherlands.

The Danish international missed the Bees’ 2-1 defeat to Leicester City after a positive Covid test but he has recovered.

But Saman Ghoddos missed this international break after he tested positive for Covid, so could be a doubt for the game.

The Bees have a total of eight first-team players on international duty but they all play their final games on Tuesday.

Therefore, unless any of them get injured, Frank should have a full squad to pick from.
