Calls for Darwin Nunez to get five-match ban for ‘assault’ on Joachim Andersen but Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool forward is ‘a good boy’ August 16, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer

Jurgen Klopp admits Darwin Nunez deserved a red card but insists the Liverpool forward is a good boy at heart.

Nunez was sent for an early bath for a crazy headbutt on Joachim Andersen during Liverpool’s draw at home to Crystal Palace.

The Reds boss insists the Uruguayan will be spoken to for his petulance but suggested this was an out of character outburst from Nunez.

“I haven’t said anything to him yet… when I saw it I of course saw that it was a red card,” Klopp told talkSPORT.

“We cannot change that and he cannot behave like that.

“He’s a good boy but did something not so good. We will talk to him and he will learn from that and we will carry on.”

“He’ll learn a lot from that. He’s not helped his team out as much as he’s helped his team play really well before he got sent off,” Gary Neville said on Sky Sports.

Liverpool improved after Nunez’s dismissal with Luis Diaz firing excellently past Vicente Guaita to level the scores.

However, they are set to be without their big-money signing for at least the next three matches, and talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy thinks it should be more.

“The headbutt from Nunez, I personally think he’ll get more than three, I think he’ll end up with a bigger ban,” Cundy said on The Sports Bar.

“What he did tonight was a disgrace. Absolute disgrace.

“I think he should get a five-match ban. Violent conduct right there. Headbutting someone is an assault, that is an assault. He headbutted him.

“That to me is more than three games. What you saw him do could’ve broken Andersen’s nose.”
