Bournemouth considering Jack Wilshere contract offer with ex-Arsenal and West Ham ace ‘looking sharp in training’ January 13, 2021 – Posted in: Soccer
Jack Wilshere could be nearing a return to football after impressing during a spell training with former club Bournemouth.
Cherries boss Jason Tindall has told talkSPORT the midfielder is ‘looking sharp’ and in great condition on the training pitch.
And he admitted the 29-year-old could be offered a contract to return to action for the second-half of the Championship campaign as the south coast club chase promotion.
Wilshere has been on the hunt for a new club ever since his release from West Ham last October.
He was heavily linked with a move to Major League Soccer, while West Brom were recently linked with an interest, but it now appears he is set to remain on the south coach with the possibility of re-signing for the Cherries.
Wilshere has been training with the Cherries, where he spent a season on loan from Arsenal in 2016/17, and was only meant to be back at the club training for one week.
But he’s now in his THIRD week with the Championship side having impressed boss Tindall.
talkSPORT’s transfer guru Alex Crook spoke to the manager after Bournemouth’s 1-1 draw with Millwall on Tuesday night, and he admitted there could be a deal on the cards for the midfielder.
“Jack’s still training with us, he’s training well, he’s looking sharp and it’s really good to have him,” he said.
“It’s a situation we’ll keep monitoring in the next week or two and we’ll see where Jack’s at, and what we feel as a club in terms of what would be the best thing moving forward.
“Whenever you’ve got a player of Jack’s quality training with you and you’re able to have a closer look, it would be foolish to say they’re not a chance of wanting to do something.
“It’s just a matter of seeing where he is, if we feel he can be an asset for us in the second half of the season and then make a decision based on all the variables.
“We haven’t had that conversation, but Jack has had a great time here, he’s loved being back here and he’s got a great relationship with all the players and staff.
“We’ll just have to see and maybe have a discussion in the next week or so.”
And Crook believes there is a genuine chance Wilshere could re-sign for Bournemouth in the coming weeks.
“That interview sounds like there’s definite possibility that he could well be offered a deal,” he told talkSPORT host Jim White.
“He would have to take a significant pay cut to what he was on at West Ham, where he was on a six-figure salary.
“Bournemouth dropped two more points last night in a game they should have won against Millwall and I would suggest that wouldn’t have happened if Wilshere was playing.
“He’s a Premier League-quality player and he’s certainly not in the veteran stage of his career.
“If they can do a deal for a player of his experience, it could well be the difference between Bournemouth winning promotion back to the Premier League or not.”
