Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi sends Mikel Arteta a reminder with another breath-taking goal for Hertha Berlin January 3, 2021 – Posted in: Soccer
Matteo Guendouzi continued his fine form with Hertha Berlin by scoring against Schalke to send a timely reminder to parent club Arsenal.
The France international was exiled to the Bundesliga side in the summer after falling foul of manager Mikel Arteta and has not played since defeat to Brighton in June last season.
However, Guendouzi is starting to hit form with Hertha and set the hosts on their way to a 3-0 victory at the Olympiastadion with a well-taken goal.
After collecting a ricocheted pass in the penalty box, the 21-year-old collected himself and managed to dig out a fine effort which curled into the bottom corner.
Despite contracting COVID-19 almost immediately after sealing his loan move in October, Guendouzi has since featured in the club’s last nine outings and actually opened his account last month.
The result moves Hertha up to 12th in the Bundesliga table and coincides with Arsenal unleashing another precocious midfielder in the Premier League in the form of Emile Smith-Rowe.
The 20-year-old from Croydon was handed a start against Chelsea on Boxing Day by Arteta and has not looked back since, recording an assist for fellow academy graduate Bukayo Saka during the demolition of West Brom on Saturday evening.
It remains to be seen whether Guendouzi has a future at the Emirates following his alleged outburst at the Amex Stadium in the summer, but the midfielder is certainly doing all he can to show he deserves it.
