Arsenal ‘not interested’ in Diego Costa, West Ham ‘working on deal’ for Josh King, overseas clubs target Wilfried Zaha December 30, 2020 – Posted in: Soccer
Arsenal are NOT interested in a deal to bring Diego Costa back to the Premier League in January, talkSPORT understands.
Transfer guru Alex Crook joined talkSPORT on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the latest news and gossip before the transfer window re-opens this week.
And he brought us the latest on Costa’s future, Arsenal’s interest in Isco, West Ham’s move for Josh King and a possible exit for Wilfried Zaha.
Former Chelsea striker Costa has been strongly linked with a return to England after ripping up his contract at Atletico Madrid.
Wolves have emerged as surprise contenders for his signature, as Nuno Espirito Santo looks for short-term cover for injured Raul Jimenez, but Arsenal have also been linked with an interest in the Brazil-born Spain international.
However, Crook claims the Gunners have distanced themselves from a possible deal for the frontman.
“We also know Wolves are in the market for a striker after losing Raul Jimenez with that horrible head injury,” he said.
“They’ve sounded out Real Madrid over a possible loan move for Luka Jovic but that looks unlikely, and they wanted Hulk but he can’t get a work permit due to the next Brexit regulations.
“Divock Origi is another name certainly on their shortlist, but their interest in the Liverpool striker – who has only played eight minutes in the Premier League this season – seems to have cooled.
“Diego Costa’s agent is Jorge Mendez, who has major influence at Molyneux, as we know, so it might come down to whether Costa is interested in moving back to England or whether he will return home to Brazil after asking to leave Atleti for ‘personal reasons’.
“Mendez did come out publicly earlier this month and said he had interest from one club in the premier League
“Arsenal have been touted as a possible destination, but my sources have distanced the Gunners from any interest there.”
West Ham ‘working on Josh King deal’
“I know David Moyes is still very keen to sign Josh King, having had a £13million bid rejected by Bournemouth in the summer,” said Crook.
“King also is desperate to move to the London Stadium.
“I spoke to Moyes at Southampton last night and he says he would be keen to do business in this transfer window, but admitted there could well be some financial restraints in place.
“I know West Ham have been busy beavering away on a potential deal behind the scenes for several weeks now.”
Here’s what Moyes told talkSPORT on Tuesday evening after the Hammers’ 0-0 draw with Southampton:
“I’d like to try, but people have got to realise there aren’t the crowds at the stadiums so we’re not getting the same revenue coming in.
“A club like West Ham, we need to be really careful and I’d want to be careful and make careful and correct signings.
“Last January we brought in Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen and they’ve made an incredible difference to us, so if we can bring in players like that I would definitely do it.
“But finding them and getting them, that’s the other bit. We’ll look at all things and see exactly what we’re going to do.”
Arsenal plot January move for misfit Isco
“Talks have already taken place between Arsenal and Real Madrid about a potential half-season loan deal for Isco,” explained Crook.
“He’s a player who has really lost his way in the Spanish capital.
“The key to this is Mikel Arteta being able to shift players from the wage bill in order to make room.
“Arsenal also face competition from Sevilla, but I think Real would prefer to send him to an overseas club than a LaLiga rival.”
Wilfried Zaha to AC Milan or PSG?
“There are some links with Wilfried Zaha, not to teams in England but a possible move abroad.
“AC Milan have been mooted as a possible destination and Paris Saint-Germain as well.
“That’s an interesting one, as Mauricio Pochettino is set to go there as manager and we know he was a fan of Zaha’s when he was in charge at Tottenham.
“But I’m just not convinced either of those clubs are going to pay the type of money Crystal Palace want for him.
“After putting in a transfer request at the start of LAST season, he then signed a big contract which he may now regret in some ways became it’s almost priced him out of a move
“Crystal Palace are still looking at around £50m for him and I just can’t see it, not in January.”
