Arsenal left vulnerable by Bukayo Saka contract saga as Manchester City and Liverpool begin to circle June 6, 2022 – Posted in: Soccer
Manchester City are preparing to step up their interest in a deal to sign Bukayo Saka.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola’s side are keen to capitalise on the Arsenal star’s contract uncertainty by making a move for the England international.
The 20-year-old’s long-term future is becoming an increasingly source of uncertainty with Saka moving into the year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium, in addition to a one-year option held by the club.
While the Gunners are prioritising a new deal for the starlet, clubs are starting to circle with Liverpool also said to be interested in a potential move.
A move this summer seems unlikely, but with Arsenal missing out on Champions League football the emergence of City and Liverpool as potential suitors will give the left-sided player food for thought going into any potential contract negotiations.
With his contract now ticking down it means that Saka’s value will start to drop, meaning that Mikel Arteta’s side could be vulnerable to approaches moving forward.
While regarded as a first team regular with the Gunners, Adrian Durham is of the belief that Saka would be better moving on due to the player being overplayed under Arteta.
He told talKSPORT: “He has to leave Arsenal for the good of his career.
“This season, he’s played 48 games in all competitions, he’s played in all 38 Premier League games, starting 36 of them. And he’s 20 years old.
“This is frighteningly similar to Jack Wilshere’s stats in the season that basically ruined his career – he didn’t play a single game the following season because of injury because they played him too much when he was that age.
“I think he’s still played less than 100 games in his career, and from the middle of last season where he suddenly burst onto the scene, and now they can’t leave him out, they can’t rotate him.
“He’s still young, they’re not looking after him properly.”
