Arsenal labelled ‘a hard watch’ and ‘very average’ by Tony Cascarino, who claims Mikel Arteta is ‘playing everyone’s pass’ December 20, 2020 – Posted in: Soccer

Where do you start with Arsenal’s problems?

They suffered yet another setback this weekend as Everton got the better of them at Goodison Park on Saturday night.

Arsenal are just four points above the bottom three

The Gunners are now seven matches without a win and have made their worst start to a season since 1974.

They’re just four points above the relegation zone and talkSPORT’s Gabby Agbonlahor believes Arsenal need to watch their backs this season.

Tony Cascarino didn’t go quite that far but believes Arsenal fans should be very worried about what the team is producing this season.

He told Weekend Sports Breakfast: “If you consider first and second in the Premier League [Liverpool and Everton] have conceded more goals than Arsenal this season, that’s crazy.

“And Mikel says ‘we created more than Everton’, Everton were leading twice so it’s inevitable that you were pressuring them more and trying to create.

“I find Arsenal a hard watch at the moment and I think a lot of Arsenal fans do too.

“I don’t see anybody apart from young lads like Bukayo Saka, Kieran Tierney doing well and looking like they can change what happens in the game slightly. There are a lot of concerns.

“I see a very average bunch of players under-performing which is the responsibility of the manager if you’re under-performing.”

The way Mikel Arteta is acting in matches is also a major concern, with Cascarino suggesting the Gunners boss doesn’t trust his players to make the right decisions on the pitch.

Cascarino added: “I feel he’s playing everyone’s pass at the moment. I say that because I’ve had a number of managers in my career and some of them drive you crazy, they’re on the sidelines telling you what to do, you should KNOW what you’re doing as a professional footballer.

“You spend all week doing drills, training sessions and I’m sure he’s done loads of them, he’s a noted coach.

“You don’t have to play everyone’s pass but I’m watching him… he’s pointing at everyone where to go, they type of ball they need to play and I’m thinking these are men, they’ve got to learn and take responsibility on their own shoulders.

“I feel the strategy of everyone getting behind the ball and tries to defend a situation is wrong for Arsenal.

“Liverpool and Manchester City have done that in years gone, Man United did it years ago… Jose’s Chelsea did that but they never, ever didn’t have a threat the other way but Arsenal are not having any threat at all.”
