Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta provides update on Bukayo Saka after starlet limped off in Brighton victory December 30, 2020 – Posted in: Soccer

Mikel Arteta is hopeful Bukayo Saka’s injury sustained in Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Brighton isn’t too serious.

The teenager was once again a star performer for the Gunners as they made it back to back wins in the Premier League for the first time since September.

Saka was excellent once again for Arsenal but picked up an injury late on

Saka set up Lacazette’s decisive 66th-minute strike to move Arsenal nine points clear of the relegation zone and further ease mounting pressure on head coach Arteta.

Asked if the injury was serious, Arteta saod: “Hopefully not.

“He was limping but I think he took a strong challenge there but hopefully he will be fine.”

On Saka’s progress as a whole, Arteta added: “I would like everybody to be cautious and let him be and let him develop.

“I think he’s having the right progression. I think he’s got the right people around him in his house in his entourage. And then he’s got the right teammates as well to support him all the time, give him confidence, keep his feet on the floor, but as well to give him support and confidence.

“Hopefully we can be the right coaches around him, be the right club to see the player that he can be in the future.”

Lacazette, who scored just 21 seconds after coming on at the Amex Stadium, praised Saka for his ever-growing influence at Arsenal.

The Frenchman said: “I’m really happy. When you come off the bench you need to help the team and today with the first touch I could score so it’s good for me and good for the team.

“(Saka) is very good and every game he improves. He shows his quality. They [young Arsenal players] make me feel old, they are young and fresh but it’s really nice to work with them.

“Of course we want to come back to the top (of the table) so we know we have to win games in a row.

“The win over Chelsea gave us confidence and now we just want to win every game and come back to the top.”
