Arsenal ARE in relegation battle and will be rebuilding in the Championship next season unless changes made, talkSPORT told December 20, 2020 – Posted in: Soccer

Arsenal ARE in a relegation battle this season and need to make a change otherwise they will be rebuilding in the Championship next season, Gabriel Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

The Gunners are 15th in the Premier League with just 14 points from 14 games – their worst start to a season since 1974.

Arteta’s side are without a win in seven Premier League games

In their final match before Christmas, they were beaten 2-1 by Everton and could be as low as 16th the next time they play.

It has often been a running joke that Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta are in a relegation battle but Agbonlahor believes they actually are now.

Arteta has received the backing of the club who say he will be given time to rebuild and things won’t change overnight.

But the former Aston Villa striker believes they are at real risk of relegation if things don’t change.

He told the Sports Bar Weekender: “It’s serious now. At first, everyone was laughing at Arsenal and how they are struggling and in a relegation battle.

“I actually do think they are now. The way they are playing, they are not showing confidence and it’s even more worrying when the manager comes out after the game and says that they’ve been the better team in the last few games and just not getting the results.

Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Arsenal are in a relegation fight now

“At the start of the season it was promising for Arsenal with the signings they made and these games now when they are losing, if they don’t make a change soon it can’t be ‘okay we are going to give Arteta some time, he’s going to build’.

“You are going to be building from the Championship if they don’t do something soon because next up is Chelsea and I fancy them to give Arsenal a good beating at the Emirates on Boxing Day.

“It’s got to change because when you look at the table I think if Burnley win their two games in hand they will go above Arsenal and if Brighton win and Burnley do then they’ll be 17th, once place behind the relegation zone.”
