Antoine Griezmann outdoes Alvaro Morata with MISS OF THE SEASON contender as Barcelona beat Real Sociedad December 17, 2020 – Posted in: Soccer
Antoine Griezmann produced an early contender for the miss of the season in Barcelona’s victory over Real Sociedad on Wednesday evening.
The Frenchman somehow fluffed his lines from point blank range in his side’s 2-1 win at Camp Nou.
As Barca led in the second half, Jordi Alba neatly rolled the ball in for Griezmann to tap home following some great work by teenager Pedri.
However, in what was arguably a chance easier to miss than score, the World Cup winner connected with the ball with the bottom of his foot and his effort tamely rolled into the arms of Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro.
Griezmann wasn’t the first forward to fluff a glaring opportunity in front of an open goal on Wednesday evening.
Alvaro Morata also missed an open goal for Juventus in their 1-1 draw with Atalanta.
With just over ten minutes played, the 28-year-old raced clear through on goal with Cristiano Ronaldo and instead of attempting to finish himself, put the heat on his teammate by playing it to him at the last second.
The Portuguese could not squeeze it in, but fortunately the ball rebounded to Morata – presenting Juve with another chance to take the lead.
But he tried, and failed, to tap home with an audacious back-heel from about six yards out.
Barcelona moved up to fifth with the victory over Sociedad, six points off LaLiga leaders Atletico Madrid.
